Recommendation: A definite read
First of all, welcome!
Everyone who will be viewing this should already know me so I'll just move forward to the good stuff, I've decided to create this blog as a means to cure my boredom while I'm in the process of job hunting; also, I love to read so why not share my thoughts on the content and hopefully help someone else either choose or stray from a novel I have read. I should also send out a "thank you!" to my significant other for suggesting this idea, Michael you're so smart!
I will primarily be reviewing and writing down my thoughts of the novels I am currently reading, have read previously, and will read in the near future. As the title of my blog indicates, a large portion of the novels I read are romantic-comedy novels or as I like to call them, the "chick flick" movie equivalent in written form. However, don't despair, on occasion I tend to revisit my most beloved content-rich novels that I have enjoyed throughout my literature career as a student.
I should warn you that this blog may also contain some other thoughts of my everyday life or recipes I have recently tried or already love since I am in the process of becoming an excellent cook :)
With all that said, last night I finished True Colors by Kristin Hannah who seems to be a popular choice for typical "chick" novels as of late; Target and other popular book stores like Barnes & Noble have had Hannah's Firefly Lane on their popular picks lists lately. Like most of the novels I read for pleasure, it was all warm and fuzzy with your typical highlights of romance, heartbreak, and reconciliation. This book, as well as Firefly Lane, don't have much humor but are chalk full of romance, true love, soul mates, and a few tears along the way as Hannah tells the story of 3 sisters who are continually brought back together by their family's land, Water's Edge, after the passing of their mother. As you can guess, their father has little to offer besides a cold shoulder and little encouragement, love, or affection. Hannah beautifully tells 3 different views through each sister that give you insight to their childhood as well as their personalities and the different relationships they have with one another. My favorite character happens to be the youngest daughter, Vivi Ann, who inherited the beauty and wild spirit from her late mother. Her naïveté and hope are the characteristics that made me fall in love with this young, confident girl who thinks she can take on the world but Vivi Ann's strength is put to the test when her true love is oddly involved in a local murder. However, the struggle only begins with Vivi Ann and works itself deep into the roots of the Grey family tearing their legacy apart. Will Water's Edge be able to bring the Grey sisters back together?
I am so proud of you Jess for starting this site! I will be checking regularly to hear of some good books!! I loved Firefly Lane and can not wait for Hannah's new book, night road!
